Alfred Yuen

Clarinet

Yuen Pak Kwong Alfred is co-founder of Minstrio, a clarinet trio that aims to captivate the audience with compelling stories conveyed through the medium of music. Yuen recently attained Master of Music degree in clarinet performance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, under the guidance of Lorenzo Iosco.

Prior to this, he studied under Wong Chi Fai, Anthony in HKAPA Junior school. Afterwards, obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Honours) from Hong Kong Baptist University, where he studied clarinet with Johnny Fong, former Principal clarinetist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. During his undergraduate studies, Yuen specialized in composition and had the privilege of being mentored by Christopher Keyes, Christopher Coleman, Matthew Schreibeis, and David Francis Urrows.

Yuen's passion for music began at a young age. He embarked on his clarinet journey at the age of 7. At the age of 15, he earned his LTCL diploma in clarinet performance with distinction. Yuen's musical journey continued at the junior school of the HKAPA and HKBU where he actively participated in the symphony orchestras, formed various chamber music groups, and performed his own clarinet quintet in the HKBU Composition Honours Project. These experiences greatly enhanced his skills in both performing and composing. Yuen also had the opportunity to partake in masterclasses and music festivals led by renowned artists such as Raphael Sévère, Florent Héau, Michael Collins, Ralph Manno, Michel Lethiec, Christian Stene and Michael Norsway. Notably, he has performed at the prestigious Festival Pablo Casals de Prades in both 2018 and 2019. In the same year, Yuen was invited to give a recital at a resort nestled above the majestic peaks of Zhangjiajie, where he received resounding applause for his performance.
