Rhythmie Wong

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Rhythmie Wong has performed numerous solo recitals in the United States, Europe and Asia. Her solo recitals recently at the Sussex International Interview Concert Series, Karlovac Piano Festival in Zagreb, Haywards Heath Music Society Concert Series and the Dueren International Piano Masterclass have been great successes. Performances have brought her to the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall in New York and Jordan Hall in Boston. She has also been invited to participate in a series of broadcasted charity concerts in Cambodia. She had been featured by the Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Radio France, Radio Television Hong Kong, TVK Cambodia, Teledifusao de Macau, as well as the Hong Kong Educational Television. Orchestral appearances have included the Worthing Symphony Orchestra, Suedwestfallen Symphony Orchestra, Northampton Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Festival Orchestra and Ealing Symphony Orchestra, among others. The “Ten Best Young Artistes” award was bestowed to her in Hong Kong. In 2022 December, her debut Solo CD ‘Evolving Fantasia’ was released. It was immediately featured and positively reviewed by France Musique, Radio France.

Recently, she was awarded the 2022 Steinway Förderpreis in Münster. She also gained 1st Prize, Audience Prize and Best Interpretation Award of a Croatian composition in the Karlovac International Piano Competition, 1st Prize in the Valletta International Piano Competition, and 3rd Prize in the Sussex International Piano Competition. Being the 1st Prize Winner of the New York International Artist Piano Competition, the Aloha International Piano competition and the Kawai Asia Piano Competition, she is also a laureate of the Dorothy Mackenzie Artist Recognition Award. She performed in Masterclasses by John Bayless, Peter Donohoe, Andrei Gavrilov, Pavel Gililov, Eduardus Halim, Ilya Itin, Emanuel Krasovsky, Ivan Moravec, Jon Nakamatsu, Maria João Pires, Jorge Luis Prats, Ferenc Rados, Paul Badura- Skoda, Aquilles Delle Vigne and Elisso Virsaladze.


Apart from playing the piano, Rhythmie has written music for micro- movies and enjoys exploring the different characters of musical instruments. She plays the violin and clarinet and she composes. As a teenager, she was a violinist in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra in Hong Kong. Her “Narnia Fantasy” written for Oboe, Violin, Horn, Cello and Piano was premiered in 2011 while a piano solo piece, <The End is Not the End>, inspired by writer Mitch Albom, was premiered in April 2014, as a tribute to the victims in Boston Marathon 2014.

Due to Rhythmie’s outstanding achievements, she was also awarded several scholarships such as the Tom Lee Music Scholarship, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Staff Prize, Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship, Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship for Overseas Studies, New England Conservatory Scholarship, NEC Merit Award, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund and the Clavarte Foundation Scholarship.

Rhythmie started piano lessons at the age of three and was soon admitted to the Junior Program of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she received her Bachelor of Music Degree under the tutelage of Professor Eleanor Wong. With the guidance of Professor Victor Rosenbaum, she completed her Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory. Rhythmie also excels in academic work that she was on the Dean’s list during her studies in Boston. She has graduated with the highest mark from the Concert Exam degree in the Cologne University of Music and Dance with Professor Claudio Martinez- Mehner, and from a Master of Music degree on Fortepiano with Professor Gerald Hambitzer. She also studied with Professor Heribert Koch in Münster Music University.
